How Mailbox transfer works

This tool copies the contents of one mailbox into another. You provide the credentials for both mailboxes, and your messages are copied from the first into the second — with their folders, their attachments and their original date. The starting mailbox is never modified: at the end, you have the same messages in both places.

Step by step

  1. 1 You enter the credentials for your current mailbox, then for the new one.
  2. 2 We connect to both and check that everything answers. Nothing is copied yet — you first see the estimated size.
  3. 3 You start the copy. The folder tree is recreated identically on the destination side.
  4. 4 You follow the progress live. You can close the page: the operation carries on, and an email tells you when it's done if you gave one.

* The full address of the mailbox, exactly as you use it to sign in — for example [email protected].

** The mailbox password. With Gmail, Outlook or Yahoo, this is not your account password: you need to create an “app password” in the security settings, and that's the one to enter here.

*** The address of the machine that hosts your messages, for example imap.gmail.com. We recognise the common providers and fill it in for you; otherwise your host gives it in their help page, usually called “IMAP server”.

**** A number that says which door to connect through. Leave the suggested value: 993 in almost every case.

***** How the connection is encrypted. Leave “SSL”, which is what every modern provider uses.

****** Optional. An address we write to once the operation is finished — handy if it takes a while.

Good to know

  • Your credentials are encrypted on arrival and erased when the operation ends.
  • Nothing is deleted from the starting mailbox: the tool copies, it does not move.
  • If the connection drops, messages already copied stay in place and you can start again without creating duplicates.
