How it works

  1. Enter the credentials for your current mailbox — address, password (or app password) and the source IMAP server settings.
  2. Enter the credentials for your new mailbox — the one the messages will be copied to.
  3. Start the transfer — MailSync connects to both mailboxes and starts copying folder by folder.
  4. Follow the progress in real time — you can close the page, the operation keeps running in the background, and a completion email is sent if you provide one.
  5. Check the result — once it's done, find all your messages, folders and attachments in the destination mailbox.

Use cases

  • Switching email providers — you're leaving your current host for another one and want to keep the full history of your conversations, without retyping anything.
  • Merging two mailboxes — you're folding an old address into the one you use daily, so you only have one to check.
  • Business migration — moving to a new hosting plan or changing your work address, while keeping the record of conversations with your clients.
  • Leaving an employer — before your work mailbox is closed, you copy your personal messages or reference folders to an address you keep.

What this tool doesn't do

  • The transfer only works over IMAP: mailboxes only reachable via POP3, or through a closed proprietary Exchange connector, can't be used as source or destination.
  • Beyond 5 GB, finishing the transfer requires a one-off payment or the Premium plan, which removes the volume cap.
  • You need to know the connection settings for both mailboxes (IMAP server, port, SSL): MailSync doesn't guess them for you, although it auto-detects settings for the most common providers.
  • Server-side filtering rules, signatures or auto-replies are not copied: only the messages and their folder structure are.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free up to 5 GB? +

Yes. Transferring a mailbox of 5GB or less is entirely free, no card required. Beyond 5GB, the first 5GB are transferred for free; then finish the operation for 4,99€ excl. VAT (5,99€ incl. VAT) or switch to Premium.

Are my credentials safe? +

Your credentials are encrypted with libsodium (XSalsa20-Poly1305) as soon as they're received, are never stored in plain text, and are permanently erased from our servers once the transfer is complete.

How long does a transfer take? +

It depends on the volume and the speed of your host. Usually a few minutes for a mailbox with a few hundred messages, longer for a large volume. You can follow progress in real time and close the page: the transfer keeps running in the background.

Are my folders and subfolders kept? +

Yes. The full folder tree is reproduced identically on the destination side, including nested subfolders. Only folder names reserved by the destination mailbox's IMAP protocol may be slightly adapted if the provider requires it.

Are messages deleted from the source mailbox? +

No, never automatically. MailSync copies your messages, it doesn't move them: your source mailbox stays intact after the operation. You can empty it yourself once you've checked the copy, if you want to.

Are my credentials stored after the operation? +

No. Your IMAP credentials are encrypted for the whole duration of the transfer, then erased as soon as it finishes. If you're signed in to your MailSync account and chose to save a mailbox, only that one is kept (encrypted) so you don't have to retype credentials next time; you can delete it at any time.

What happens if the transfer is interrupted? +

In case of a network outage or server-side error, the transfer stops cleanly and the messages already copied stay in the destination mailbox. You can start a new operation: messages already present aren't duplicated thanks to duplicate detection.

Which providers are supported? +

Any provider offering standard IMAP access: Gmail, Outlook/Microsoft 365, Yahoo, iCloud, OVH, o2switch, and the vast majority of professional hosts. You simply need the credentials and the IMAP server settings (address, port, SSL).

Are attachments and read/unread status preserved? +

Yes. Attachments are copied along with their message, and flags (read, unread, replied, flagged) are kept when the destination provider supports them.

Is there a volume limit? +

The transfer is free up to 5GB. Beyond that, the first 5GB are transferred for free, then you finish the operation with a one-off payment or by switching to Premium, which removes this limit.
