What this tool doesn't do
- The analysis only works over IMAP: mailboxes only reachable via POP3, or through a closed proprietary Exchange connector, can't be analyzed with this tool.
- The connection is read-only: MailSync never modifies, moves or deletes any message. The tool doesn't sort your mailbox for you — it informs your decisions, sorting is up to you.
- MailSync doesn't read the content of your messages: it's limited to headers returned by the server (sender, date, size), without ever opening the body of an email.
- For very large folders, statistics are built by sampling and extrapolation, to keep analysis time reasonable: the numbers you get are a reliable estimate, not a message-by-message count.

What statistics does the analyzer calculate? +
MailSync goes through your mailbox and calculates the size of each folder, the list of your most frequent senders (useful for spotting newsletters), and the breakdown of your messages by year received.
Is the content of my emails read or analyzed? +
No. MailSync never reads the body of your messages. It's limited to the technical headers returned by the IMAP server for each message — sender, date and size — without ever opening an email.
How long does an analysis take? +
It depends on the number of messages in your mailbox. Usually a few dozen seconds to a few minutes. For very large folders, MailSync samples messages to keep analysis time reasonable, then extrapolates the result across the whole folder.
Is my mailbox changed during the analysis? +
No. The connection is read-only: no message is deleted, moved, or marked as read. MailSync only reads the headers of your messages to build the statistics.
How can I use the results to sort my mailbox? +
Start by spotting the heaviest folders to prioritize your clean-up, then the senders that come up most often to unsubscribe from unwanted newsletters or set up filters. The breakdown by year helps you decide what can safely be archived or deleted.
Are my credentials kept after the analysis? +
No. Your IMAP credentials are encrypted for the whole duration of the analysis, then erased as soon as it finishes. If you're signed in to your MailSync account and chose to save the mailbox, only that one is kept (encrypted) so you don't have to retype credentials next time; you can delete it at any time.
